Litter in Nature

Litter in nature is a photographic project that investigates the issue of litter in natural environments and examines how discarded waste affects both the landscape and the wider ecosystem. By visiting local locations in Cornwall, I documented examples of rubbish that had been left in public and natural spaces, focusing on items that were often overlooked by passers-by. This process encouraged me to become more observant of my surroundings and develop a deeper understanding of the extent of the problem within everyday environments. Through photography, I aimed to draw attention to the impact of litter on nature and highlight the ways in which human actions can negatively affect the environment. The images captured convey evidence of pollution within natural spaces, showing how waste can disrupt habitats, harm wildlife, and reduce the visual quality of the landscape. By presenting these scenes through a photographic lens, I sought to encourage viewers to engage with the issue and consider their own responsibility in reducing environmental damage. The project also explores the role of photography can be used as a tool for raising awareness and communicating social and environmental concerns. Rather than simply documenting litter, the work aims to start conversations about environmental responsibility and the importance of caring for local spaces. Overall, the project demonstrates that although awareness of littering has increased in recent years, it continues to be a widespread issue that requires ongoing efforts to promote positive behavioural change and protect the natural environment.
